What is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)?

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) uses your own platelets to act like stem cells by using growth factors to stimulate collagen and hair growth, expediting healing after microneedling or lasers like Fraxel, and improving the appearance of under-eye circles and skin texture and tone.

How is Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) obtained?

• Dr. Campbell will draw your blood in the office much like a blood draw for routine labs. The blood is collected in a special tube that is then spun in a centrifuge to separate your blood from your platelet rich plasma. This “liquid gold” is then collected and injected into the areas being treated.

Why use Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)?

• PRP is used to regrow hair in patients with male and female pattern hair loss. PRP can also be used to stimulate collagen and expedite recovery after injury to the skin. For these reasons PRP is oftentimes combined with microneedling to improve results by stimulating even more collagen and shortening recovery time.
• PRP can also be added to laser treatments like Clear and Brilliant and Fraxel to improve results and shorten downtime. Lastly PRP can be blended with fillers or injected on its own to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and improve the look of dark under-eye circles.

How many PRP treatments are needed for hair loss?

• A series of treatments is required to start seeing results for hair loss. Typically a series of 3-4 PRP treatments are performed spaced 6 weeks apart. Most patients note increased hair thickness and density at 6-12 months. Maintenance treatments are needed every 4-6 months.

What are possible side effects of Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)?

• Damage to blood vessels, hematoma, infection and/or irritation. Temporary or permanent nerve damage that may result in pain or numbness. As with any injection-based treatment, infection is a slight possibility.
